Clubs & Societies

At EYK School, we believe learning extends beyond the classroom. Our clubs help students discover new talents, build friendships, and develop life skills.

Debating Club

Our Story: The Debating Club is the heartbeat of our school. Through weekly practice sessions and inter-school competitions, our students learn to research, speak with confidence, and respect different viewpoints.

Our Debate Club is a vibrant and engaging space where students develop confidence, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. The club provides learners with the opportunity to express their ideas, challenge opinions, and explore a wide range of topics in a respectful and structured environment.

Through regular debate sessions, students learn how to research thoroughly, construct strong arguments, and present their points clearly and persuasively. They are also trained to listen actively and respond thoughtfully to opposing views, building both intellectual discipline and mutual respect.

Participation in the Debate Club helps students grow into confident public speakers and independent thinkers. It also encourages teamwork, as members often collaborate to prepare for debates and competitions.

The club occasionally participates in inter-school debate competitions, giving students a platform to showcase their skills and interact with peers from other institutions.

Above all, the Debate Club nurtures curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love for learning and meaningful discussion.

Scouting

Our Story: Our Scouts learn outdoor skills, first aid, and leadership through adventure.

Our scout club includes both Girl Guides and Boy Scouts, guided by Lord Baden-Powell’s principles. Members take part in activities like camping, first aid training, and community service. They proudly hoist and lower the national flag during school assemblies and special events. Additionally, scouts support event preparations—cleaning, arranging seating, and guiding visitors. These experiences build leadership, teamwork, and responsibility, shaping young citizens who serve with pride.

Cookery Club

Our Story: The Cookery Club is where creativity meets nutrition. Students learn to prepare healthy, affordable meals.

Cookery club isn’t just about chopping vegetables—it’s where learners gain lifelong skills. From handling raw ingredients to preparing delicious dishes, members master kitchen basics, hygiene, and safety. But that’s not all. They learn to budget meals, reduce food waste, and explore global cuisines—building confidence, teamwork, and smart eating habits.

Imagine your child proudly cooking a balanced family dinner or impressing friends with homemade snacks. Cookery club turns curiosity into capability. It’s fun, educational, and deliciously convincing. Join the club—where young chefs are born, one safe, sizzling step at a time.

Journalism Club

Beyond the Classroom: The Voice of Elinu ya Kenya:

In a world overflowing with information, the ability to tell a story—to find the truth, shape the narrative, and amplify a voice—is more than a skill; it’s a superpower. At Elinu ya Kenya, that superpower is being honed in a modest meeting room that buzzes with the energy of discovery. This is the home of the Journalism Club, a dynamic platform where students transform from passive learners into active storytellers.

The club is far more than an extracurricular activity; it is a thriving micro-newsroom. It opens its doors to students with a passion for curiosity, offering a structured path into the world of news reporting, writing, and communication. But here, the learning is hands-on. Members don’t just study the theory of journalism, they live it.

Under the guidance of their patron and mentors, these young reporters are developing a robust toolkit for the digital age. They are learning the discipline of gathering information, verifying facts to ensure accuracy. They are mastering the craft of writing articles, finding the perfect words to capture an event’s essence. They work collaboratively to edit each other’s work, understanding that the best stories are forged in teamwork. And finally, they step in front of the camera or behind the microphone to present the news, learning to communicate with clarity and confidence.

The result is a club that is deeply integrated into the life of the school. When a sporting event reaches its final whistle, a Journalism Club member is there, not just as a spectator, but as a chronicler, notebook in hand. When a guest speaker visits, their insights are captured for posterity through interviews that go beyond the surface. The club serves as the official memory of Elinu ya Kenya, creating compelling school news that keeps the entire community informed and connected. Their reach even extends outside the school gates, as they learn to report on the wider world with the same integrity and curiosity they apply on campus.

Yet, the true impact of the Journalism Club is measured not just in the articles they publish, but in the students, they help shape. By its very nature, the club is a crucible for essential life skills. It nurtures creativity, challenging students to find fresh angles and engaging formats. It builds confidence, replacing the fear of public speaking with the assurance of a practiced communicator. It instills teamwork, as students learn that a news desk functions through collaboration—the writer, the editor, the photographer, all relying on one another. Above all, it cultivates responsibility, teaching these young journalists that their words have power and that with that power comes the duty to be fair, accurate, and ethical.

The Journalism Club at Elinu ya Kenya is more than just a club. It is a launchpad. It is where future journalists are born, where confident communicators are forged, and where the vibrant stories of our school community are brought to light. .

Environmental Club

Our Story:

In recent years, the concept of grooming schools has gained significant traction as educators and communities recognize the importance of environmental stewardship. The green belt movement has helped to preserve the ecosystem in the immediate environment and beyond. Greening schools involves integrating sustainable practices into the educational environment, promoting ecofriendly behaviors among students and fostering a culture of environmental awareness.

This initiative not only enhances the physical school environment but also enriches the educational experience by connecting students with real world issues related to sustainability and conservation.

The movement towards greener schools is driven by a growing understanding of the impact that education can have on environmental issues. School serves as a microcosm of society, and by implementing sustainable practices, they can model responsible behaviors for learner. This initiative encourages the learners to think critically about their role in the environment and empowers them to take action. As for instance, some of the learners have taken keen initiative to preserve and conserve the environment through such practices as;

  • Installing bins in the school compound to prevent careless dropping of litters by fellow learners.
  • Creation of environmental days; once in a week, where learners exchange ideas on how to improve ecosystem for long-term sustenance of the environment.
  • Formation of green belt movement club for the environmentally conscious learners.
  • Zero tolerance to water wastage where every drop counts; so none of the learners is allowed to waste this ‘’gold ‘’in our possession.

Environmental consciousness is a vital goal our learners solemn existence in this cosmic planet called ‘’earth ‘’.

Again, it is a collective responsibility for all of us to make the world a better place to live in peacefully.
